Testify! with Larry Grogan airs every Thursday afternoon, 3 to 5 p.m. on WFMU's Give The Drummer Radio stream.On this week’s “Testify! With Larry Grogan”, it’s 2 hours of brass, horns, and funk from the late 1960s and early 1970s.  This week includes music from The Fabulous Flippers, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Chicago, Electric Flag, and Ballin’ Jack.  If the riffs in these tracks sound familiar, it’s because a lot of them have been sampled in hit songs by your favorite rap/hip-hop artists.  The playlist and archive of the show can be found here for your listening pleasure.

  • Brian Grubb has a point about “an Ocean’s movie every 18 months”.  Structure them like the old “Big Broadcast” movies from the 1930s: thin on the plot wrapped in heist action instead of musical numbers.   A heist staged in the middle of a heist movie?  Why not?  A heist on a cruise ship in a Transatlantic race from New York to London?  Set sail on the HEIIIIIST BOOOOAT!  A heist during the Summer Olympics?(pencil that for 2028).  Find two French actors in a Speedo to play Danny and Rusty.  A heist resulting in a getaway taking place during a “sea to shining sea” cannonball race?  You bet your ass!  Danny Ocean will be played by Pedro Pascal dressed as Burt Reynolds.  Fuck it, let’s bend time and space.  Have a “heist-off” between Clooney’s Ocean crew and Sinatra’s crew that happened to fall into a wormhole bringing them into the present.  You’re welcome, Hollywood!  Send the $5000 now, I’m down to zero.  [Type Click Type]

This is NOT how you get cheese on television:

A New Hampshire man enrolled as a student at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina is facing burglary charges after he allegedly broke into homes near the school’s campus and poured queso dip on someone’s television and furniture.

Arinello is charged with burglary and breaking and entering.  The queso went on to decent ratings behind reruns of “NCIS”.
